The Role

The School of Isolated and Distance Education (SIDE) is seeking dedicated, motivated and innovative teachers of Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Psychology, Biology and/or Human Biology. We are looking for enthusiastic and culturally sensitive operators with strong curriculum knowledge, who will bring classroom energy into our online environment, inspiring and engaging our students around Western Australia and beyond.

As a teacher at SIDE, you will be fully supported to develop your skills in online teaching, enabling you to create engaging and culturally responsive materials to cater for student diversity. Graduate and newly qualified teachers are also encouraged to apply for this pool.

SIDE offers a range of lower secondary and senior secondary Science subjects. Suitable applicants may teach one or more senior secondary subjects within the Science Learning Area, as well as lower secondary Science.

Suitable applicants should have excellent interpersonal skills and be committed to working as part of a energetic and collaborative team. Having a positive attitude with the ability to anticipate and adapt to change, and showing initiative, flexibility and creative problem solving to produce the best opportunities for students will be highly regarded.

The School of Isolated and Distance Education

SIDE is a cutting-edge online school that provides a high level of education to children who need additional flexibility. We play a critical role within the Western Australian education system, supporting system needs and priorities.

Our vision is to enhance and expand learning opportunities for Western Australian students, regardless of their circumstances, through high quality, inclusive and culturally responsive educational programs in a blended learning environment, guided by our values of Connection, Courage, Equity, Creativity and Compassion.

As a teacher with SIDE, you will have the opportunity to reach out and make a difference to students throughout Western Australia, delivering high-quality online and blended education programs to suit the varying contexts and needs of our students.

As a recognised leader in blended education in Australia, SIDE models exemplary practice in the use of both synchronous (Webex) and asynchronous (Moodle) platforms of instruction. SIDE has a dedicated training and support program for staff who join our school. Our practice is both contemporary and constantly evolving, making SIDE an exciting and dynamic place to work.

Teachers at SIDE participate in our regional travel program to meet the needs of students and partner schools. Visits are planned in negotiation with staff, and at times may include short-term stays in regional and remote locations.

SIDE has a main campus in Leederville and teaching facilities at Canning College, Clarkson Community High School, Northlake Senior Campus and Eaton Community College. Teachers based in the metropolitan area may be required to work at any current or future metropolitan venues.
