Overview

Department of Planning, Lands and Heritage WA – Whiteman Park, Whiteman WA. Whiteman Park is a 3700Ha conservation and recreation reserve located near Swan Valley, offering a habitat for native flora and fauna and a destination for public recreation. Open every day of the year, the Park attracts over 1.5 million visitors annually with wildlife and transport heritage offerings.

The Museum Curator is responsible for delivering a contemporary, responsive and fit-for-purpose collection and museum management framework, ensuring high standards of museum practice and service delivery. The role includes conservation and interpretation of the built and movable heritage collections, high-standard museum operations, and engaging public programmes and visitor experiences. The position offers the opportunity to work in a unique location within a small, dedicated team at one of Perth's premier tourist destinations. The role may involve other Park operations including events, conservation work, fire mitigation and emergency response as required. Overtime on weekends and public holidays may be required. This is a permanent full-time position and may be used to fill future similar permanent or fixed-term vacancies within the Department and across the WA public sector in the next 12 months from the initial date of appointment.

The position is at Whiteman Park, 233a Drumpellier Drive, Whiteman 6068.

Responsibilities and requirements

To be successful for this position, you need to demonstrate:

* Considerable experience in a curatorial environment with a sound understanding of contemporary museum practices and programming.
* Demonstrated knowledge and application of current and emerging trends in a museum and collection management environment.
* Experience in undertaking research and analysis for archival and interpretation purposes, and developing fit-for-purpose policies and procedures for collection management and interpretation.
* Ability to promote and provide access to a movable heritage collection through exhibitions and museum programming.
* Demonstrate the behaviours within the leadership context of Leading Others as outlined below.
