Overview
A leading Federal Government Agency is seeking a highly skilled Senior IMS/COBOL Developer (Software Engineer) to join a high-performing development team responsible for delivering stable, secure and scalable enterprise mainframe applications. These roles support essential national services and form part of a major transformation agenda. The Senior IMS/COBOL Developer (Software Engineer) will secure a 12-month contract with the view to extend up to 24 months, based in ACT, QLD, VIC or SA with hybrid working arrangements.
Responsibilities
* Design, develop, test and maintain IBM mainframe applications using COBOL, IMS DB/DC, JCL, and related utilities.
* Translate business requirements into technical specifications and produce clear documentation.
* Conduct unit, integration and regression testing, ensuring system stability and performance.
* Troubleshoot complex ICT issues, implement enhancements, and support release and deployment activities.
* Contribute to data migration, code transformation and adherence to approved development methodologies.
Qualifications
* Strong proficiency with COBOL, IMS, JCL, and mainframe development tools and utilities.
* Demonstrated ability across all stages of the software development lifecycle, including secure coding and quality assurance.
* Experience designing complex software components and integrating systems within enterprise environments.
* Ability to monitor emerging technologies and provide specialist technical advice.
* Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and business domains.
Contract & Location
Hybrid working arrangements in ACT, QLD, VIC or SA.
