About the role
We are seeking a detail orientated and analytical Purchasing Coordinator to lead procurement operations within our aquatic business. Based in our facility in Epping, Victoria, this hands-on critical role will ensure the timely and cost-effective sourcing of aquatic livestock, and related supplies. The successful candidate will manage supplier relationships, oversee inventory levels, and ensure compliance with biosecurity and import regulations. A key component of the role involves liaising with government departments, Australian Border Force, and regulatory bodies to facilitate smooth and compliant cross-border transactions. The Purchasing Coordinator will also liaise with the senior management team, contributing to strategic planning and decision-making to support the company's growth and sustainability goals.
What you'll be doing: -
* Maintain, develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with business objectives and seasonal demand cycles.
* Source and negotiate with domestic and international suppliers for aquatic livestock and other aquarium-related products.
* Conduct demand forecasting in collaboration with sales to ensure accurate procurement planning.
* Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with operations to maintain optimal stock without overcapitalising.
* Liaise with government agencies, customs, and regulatory bodies to manage permits, documentation, and inspections, ensuring compliance with all relevant biosecurity, quarantine, and import regulations.
* Evaluate supplier performance and maintain strong vendor relationships.
* Identify cost-saving opportunities and process improvements across the procurement function.
* Prepare reports and analysis for senior management, contributing to strategic decisions.
* Collaborate with senior management to manage budgets, forecasts, and company objectives.
* Stay informed of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies in the industry.
What we're looking for: -
* Proven experience in purchasing or supply chain management, preferably within aquaculture, agriculture, or a related perishable or FMCG industry.
* Strong knowledge of international trade, customs procedures, and government compliance requirements.
* Excellent negotiation, communication, and vendor management skills.
* Ability to work collaboratively across departments and with senior management.
* Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Tertiary qualifications in Supply Chain Management, Business, Aquaculture, or a related field are highly desirable.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite, particularly advanced Excel skills for inventory management and reporting.
