Primary Purpose The Chief Engineer, Vehicle Strategy & Integration is a senior leadership role responsible for defining, aligning and delivering the Australian vehicle engineering strategy. The role integrates vehicle architecture, customer adaptation, support functions and project execution to ensure locally relevant, commercially viable and technically robust solutions.
What you will do The primary purpose of the Chief Engineer, Vehicle Strategy & Integration position is to lead the end‑to‑end vehicle strategy and integration for the Australian market, ensuring alignment between global platforms and local customer, regulatory and commercial requirements. You will drive execution excellence that supports business growth, customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Define and own the Australian vehicle engineering strategy and technical roadmap
Translate market, customer and regulatory requirements into engineering direction
Lead maintenance product changes
Oversee product readiness and engineering release quality
Influence global product development to optimise local product‑market fit
Complete vehicle integration
Lead vehicle architecture and system integration across all Australian applications
Own the end‑to‑end delivery of the technical roadmap for Australian vehicle ranges
Manage planning, prioritization, and total backlog for all Australian vehicle ranges
Ensure effective use of systems (Project office, Quest, quoting, PMR) for tracking, forecasting and reporting
Project Management Engineering for start cost
Ensure customer solutions are technically sound, commercially viable and scalable
Deliver vehicle architecture and geometrical packaging
Be the customer adaptation interface for GTT Brisbane
Product structure oversight and preparation
Interface with global stakeholders (BGL, GOT, GSO) to align on overseas deliveries
Influence prioritisation and trade‑offs in a complex, matrixed environment
Who are you? You will be a seasoned engineering leader with a passion for people development and a proven track record in product development and vehicle engineering.
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor or Master of Engineering
Business Skills & Attributes
At least 15 years’ experience of product development
Solid knowledge of Australian regulatory requirements, vehicles and applications
Experience in working in a global and cross‑functional organization
Passionate about people development
Courage and integrity; lead and act according to the Volvo values
