Primary objective
The Senior Executive Assistant provides high level executive support and project management services to assist with the
coordination of the Chief Executive Officer's day-to-day priorities, as well as the timely flow of accurate information to the
Minister's Office, executive staff, governance and key stakeholder groups. This role also provides ongoing support to the
department's Secretariat team.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide high level executive coordination and preparation of confidential and sensitive correspondence including briefings,
reports, and responses for the Chief Executive in a timely, accurate and appropriate manner.
2. Support the Chief Executive by managing effective partnerships, particularly with departmental executives and key
stakeholders.
3. Monitor and process a high volume of correspondence and undertake meeting administration and preparation to ensure the
Chief Executive is accurately briefed and responsive.
1. Undertake research, provide accurate analysis of various issues, and prepare advice and information for the Chief Executive to
facilitate informed decision making.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience working within an executive environment where there are multiple competing priorities and proven
ability to exercise sound judgement, particularly in respect to politically sensitive and confidential matters.
2. Highly developed coordination and collaboration skills with the ability to think strategically and manage stakeholders with
diverse interests to achieve a common goal.
3. Knowledge of the structure of Government, including the relationship with the Minister's Office and key processes including
government administration, Ministerial, Cabinet and legislative processes.
4. Well-developed oral communication including polite and professional interpersonal and networking skills and an ability to
interact effectively with people from diverse cultures.
5. High level written communication skills, with ability to pay attention to detail and maintain a high standard of accuracy.
6. Well-developed organisational and time management skills with the capacity to effectively manage several priorities and
deadlines and the ability to rapidly adapt to change.
7. Sound working knowledge of office-based computing applications including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Expense8,
electronic record management, travel booking systems and general administrative procedures including records maintenance
and management.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in business management, finance, or other relevant discipline.
2. Prior experience working in a Public Sector Environment with a knowledge of the Department of Agriculture and Fisheries.
