Job Description
We are seeking a Product Design Engineer to join our team at our headquarters in Eastern Melbourne, Australia. This in-office position combines engineering excellence with user-centered design principles. You'll work alongside our experienced Industrial Designer to create products that meet technical specifications and delight users through thoughtful, intuitive design.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the technical design and development of tablet stands, kiosks, and mounting solutions, focusing on structural integrity, functionality, and manufacturability.
* Design user-friendly tablet mounting solutions that prioritize both form and function, ensuring intuitive interaction and operational efficiency.
* Conduct detailed engineering analysis, including stress analysis, thermal analysis, and material selection to optimize product performance and durability.
* Create and maintain detailed 3D models, technical drawings, and specifications using SolidWorks, ensuring precision in manufacturing processes.
* Develop and implement testing protocols to validate product designs against performance requirements and industry standards.
* Collaborate with our existing Industrial Designer to ensure that engineering solutions align with aesthetic and user experience goals.
* Manage the transition from design to manufacturing, working closely with production teams to optimize processes and resolve technical issues.
* Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product performance, reduce costs, and improve manufacturability.
* Stay abreast of emerging technologies and materials relevant to our product lines, driving innovation in our engineering approaches.
Requirements
* Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field, Master's degree is a plus.
* Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in product engineering, preferably in consumer electronics or related hardware products.
* Strong proficiency in SolidWorks or similar CAD software, with experience in 3D modelling and technical drawing creation.
* In-depth knowledge of manufacturing processes, particularly die-cast aluminum, injection model plastics, and CNC machining.
* Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and other engineering simulation tools.
* Proven track record in designing products for mass production, considering factors such as cost, manufacturability, and quality.
* Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in a technical context.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with designers and cross-functional teams.
* Familiarity with project management tools like Monday.com is desirable.
* Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations for product safety and performance.
