Eating Disorders Families Australia (EDFA) is the only national organisation solely for families and carers of those living with eating disorders. A not-for-profit organisation, EDFA provides support to families and carers who are grappling every day with the challenges of supporting someone with an eating disorder.
Our fully remote team is located around Australia. This position is available fixed term to 30 June 2026 with the possibility of extension. Hours are negotiable, with full‑time and part‑time hours considered.

Fill The Gap (FTG) Programme
The FTG program, launched in October 2023 with Federal Government funding, is a free, online counselling service for people aged 10+ supporting a loved one with an eating disorder. FTG delivers evidence‑based one‑on‑one counselling, aiming to provide carers with the knowledge, skills and strategies to support their loved ones’ recovery and maintain their own wellbeing.
Duties
- Deliver evidence‑based counselling, psycho‑education and support to carers supporting a loved one with an eating disorder.
- Contribute to program development, review and improvement as part of a small, collaborative team.
- Participate in ongoing training and supervision to maintain high‑quality service.
- Maintain professional and ethical management of carer information and confidentiality.
Ideal Candidate
- Holds tertiary qualifications in psychology, social work, counselling, or an aligned field.
- Is professionally registered with PACFA, ACA, AWS or AHPRA.
- Has lived experience as a carer of someone with an eating disorder.
- Has sound knowledge of mental health assessment, risk assessment, safety planning, and counselling theory and practice.
- Has a minimum of 5 years’ counselling experience with a focus on psychological strategies.
- Has experience in eating disorder theory, research, or practice support.
- Communicates clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing.
- Hold professional indemnity insurance, a working with children check, and national police check.
- Is an ANZAED credentialed clinician, or is willing to obtain the ANZAED credential.
