Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site Primary Healthcare Nurse role based in Broken Hill, NSW. The Primary Healthcare Nurse will provide comprehensive, person-centered clinical care, including health assessments, chronic disease management, immunizations, wound care, and medication administration. The role involves working closely with general practitioners, allied health professionals, Aboriginal health workers, and other team members to deliver integrated primary health services. Daily responsibilities include conducting client consultations, monitoring treatment plans, maintaining accurate clinical records, and contributing to care coordination and follow-up. The nurse will also participate in health promotion, screening activities, and community outreach to support prevention and early intervention. In addition, the role includes contributing to quality improvement, adherence to clinical guidelines, and supporting culturally safe care practices.
Qualifications
* Current registration as a Registered Nurse (or equivalent) with the relevant Australian regulatory body and eligibility to practice in New South Wales.
* Demonstrated experience in primary health care or community nursing, including health assessments, chronic disease management, and preventative health.
* Strong clinical skills in areas such as immunization, wound care, medication administration, and triage, with a commitment to evidence-based practice.
* High-level communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients, families, and communities.
* Experience working in multidisciplinary teams and contributing to coordinated care plans and integrated service delivery.
* Understanding of, or willingness to develop, knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, cultural safety, and the social determinants of health.
* Strong organizational and time management abilities, including accurate documentation, use of clinical information systems, and adherence to privacy and confidentiality requirements.
* Commitment to continuous quality improvement, professional development, and participation in training, audits, and clinical governance activities.
* Current immunization status consistent with healthcare worker requirements, Working With Children Check, National Police Check, and a valid driver's license (or ability to obtain).
* Experience in rural or remote health settings is highly regarded, as is postgraduate training in primary health care, Indigenous health.
