A well-established, privately owned and growing project-based business is seeking an experienced Head of Finance to join its leadership team, with a clear pathway to progress into a CFO role within 12 months.

The Opportunity
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this role will initially focus on strengthening the finance function and ensuring robust financial reporting, forecasting, project costing and cash flow management capabilities are in place to support the company's growth agenda.
As a key member of the leadership team, you will provide commercial and strategic insights to the MD and broader business, helping drive performance, profitability and decision-making. You will play a pivotal role in developing reporting frameworks, improving project visibility and delivering meaningful insights that enable the business to scale successfully.
Success in the role will require an ability to translate financial information into commercial outcomes, partner effectively with operational stakeholders and help the business understand the story behind the numbers.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the finance function with a hands-on and commercially focused approach
* Deliver accurate and timely financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting
* Drive project costing, profitability analysis, WIP reporting and cash flow management
* Partner closely with project managers and operational leaders to improve project performance and commercial outcomes
* Develop reporting frameworks and dashboards that support business decision-making
* Strengthen financial controls, processes and governance across the business
* Provide strategic support to the MD and leadership team on growth initiatives and business performance
* Play a key role in the transition toward a future CFO position
About You
You are a CA/CPA qualified finance leader with strong technical capability, commercial acumen and the ambition to progress into a CFO role.
You will bring:
* Experience within project-based industries such as construction, civil contracting, engineering, infrastructure or related sectors
* Strong project accounting, job costing and commercial finance experience
* Excellent financial reporting, forecasting and cash flow management capability
* A hands‐on, proactive and solutions‐oriented approach
* The ability to influence stakeholders and partner effectively with operational teams
* Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial information in a clear and commercial manner
* High levels of integrity, accountability and leadership capability
* Advanced Excel and strong systems experience (Xero advantageous)

Competitive salary package plus bonus.
Initially five days in the office to support collaboration and integration, with flexibility evolving over time.
