In this role you will promote service delivery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander offenders incarcerated or subject to community-based supervision. The key focus of this role will be to work with Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander men who have been convicted of violent and sexual offences. This role provides specialist advice, recommendations and practice supervision in relation to the management, assessment and rehabilitation programs and services designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

The
primary accountabilities
of the Senior Cultural Program Officer *Identified include:

* Work within a multidisciplinary team consisting of First Nations and non-First Nations staff, who deliver sexual offending rehabilitation programs to First Nations men convicted of sexual offences.
* Lead and implement strategies for cultural capability, cultural safety and cultural supervision for both First Nations and non-First Nations staff who engage in the delivery of programs for First Nations people to inspire a skilled workforce.
* Complete mandatory program specific training in both content, delivery, tools and supervision methods for sexual offending programs to ensure offenders are referred to appropriate intervention programs and services.
* Assist in the delivery and supervision of general and sexual offending programs and activities to enhance a greater awareness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and issues both contemporary and historical in line with endorsed program schedule.
* Set priorities and develop local strategies, procedures and work practices that relate to a multicultural environment or similar.
* Initiate, encourage and facilitate greater engagement with community groups/networks for the purpose of increasing post release family support structures.
* Monitor and audit offender program practices to ensure maintenance, accuracy and appropriateness of records and intervention reports for appropriate authorities.
* Ensure staffs' compliance with legislation and Agency procedures for the management of offenders
* Identify, respond appropriately to, and provide advice regarding, risks related to effective and efficient program delivery.
* Ensure high quality specialised assessment, intervention and reports to courts and boards on relevant offender issues through established review processes and timely advice.
* Maintain own level of knowledge of legislation, policy and procedures in relation to offender management and contemporary management practices.
* Build partnerships with relevant service providers and stakeholders and collaborate with community agencies to develop and deliver offender programs initiatives.
* Build and maintain relationships to promote value of First Nations offender programs and effectively collaborate with internal and external professional networks, Elder Groups and Community Justice Groups.
* Provide advice to relevant QCS staff regarding First Nations Australian prisoner/offender program suitability and/or other intervention activities.
* Provide advice to the relevant Manager regarding any emerging risks to program delivery and ensure the appropriate allocation of workload.
* Provide cultural support and advice to senior management across a range of culturally appropriate programs, services and practices.
* Consult and liaise with the members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Reference Group in relation to any issues of concern.
