About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Plant Operations Manager to lead the day-to-day and long-term operations of our steel fabrication business for domestic and commercial construction. This newly created role reports directly to the General Manager and plays a pivotal part in shaping the operational future of the company.

The Plant Operations Manager will oversee a multidisciplinary team of 5–8 direct reports and indirectly a team of 20, including designers, welders, and drivers, ensuring seamless coordination across departments. The role encompasses the full operational spectrum with the role being roughly 80% at the plant and 20% on site, providing a strong operational presence while maintaining direct engagement with project delivery and client needs.

We are looking for someone with experience in steel fabrication or construction-related operations, who understands the nuances of working with steel and can confidently lead production and project delivery. Core Responsibilities

* Lead day-to-day and long-term operations of the steel fabrication plant
* Manage and coordinate a team of 5–8 direct reports and indirectly a team of 20, including designers, welders, and drivers
* Oversee estimation, design coordination, and job scheduling
* Resolve site and workshop issues efficiently
* Maintain strong operational presence (80% plant-based, 20% on-site)
* Ensure high-quality standards across production and project delivery
* Drive continuous improvement in processes and performance
* Liaise with customers to ensure satisfaction and project alignment
* Support business development and contribute to strategic growth
* Report directly to the General Manager and help shape operational strategy

Skills and Qualifications

* Experience in steel fabrication or construction-related operations (essential)
* Strong leadership and team management capabilities with a background in either managing or supervising plant or workshop operations
* Excellent operational planning and problem-solving skills
* Proficiency in job scheduling, production oversight, and workflow optimisation
* High attention to detail and commitment to quality standards
* Strategic thinking with a focus on continuous improvement
* Comfortable working in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
* Strong software literacy, including workshop management systems and estimation tools
* Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams) for reporting, scheduling, and communication
* Familiarity with structural steel products and installation processes
* Welding certificate preferred, with the ability to certify works and welding techniques
* Exposure to both plant-based and on-site project environments
* Demonstrated ability to support business development and operational growth
