Overview
The AGGP Legal Stream provides opportunities to work across sub-streams (Legal Policy and Legal Practice) and participating agencies. You may be asked to input into legal policy, assist with administration of legal policy, or provide legal advice as part of an in-house team within Commonwealth Government agencies. You will have the opportunity to express preference for Legal Policy, Legal Practice, or both, and for the agencies you would like to work for.
Responsibilities
* Contribute to legal policy input or administration as assigned by the sub-stream and agency placement.
* Assist with the provision of legal advice as part of an in-house legal team within Commonwealth Government agencies.
* Engage in development and implementation activities that strengthen legal skills in a fast-paced, supportive environment.
Eligibility
Applicants to the Legal stream must have completed a minimum of a Bachelor of Laws or a Juris Doctor.
* If applying for the Legal Practice Stream, you must be admitted as a Lawyer or willing to complete your Practical Legal Training during your graduate year to be admitted as a Lawyer.
* To be eligible for the Legal Stream you must submit a completed application prior to the closing date and provide evidence or confirmation of the following:
* you are an Australian citizen at the time of application
* have completed, or be completing, a Bachelor of Laws or a Juris Doctor between 1 January 2022 and 31 December 2026
* be able to obtain and maintain a valid Australian Government security clearance once accepted onto the program when required. Further information on security clearances is available from Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA)
* be willing to undergo any police, character, health or other checks required
* be Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (and be able to provide evidence of this if required)
Notes
Successful applicants will be placed in a merit pool that will be considered by the APS and Commonwealth entities. Agencies and departments will offer different employment conditions and graduate program features.
