Learn to Swim Instructor and Squad Coach
Are you passionate about swimming and love working with children and young athletes? Toowoomba Grammar School (TGS) is seeking a Learn to Swim Instructor & Squad Coach to join our dynamic Aquatic Centre team. This dual-role position primarily focuses on delivering high-quality Learn to Swim lessons, as well as supporting our Squad Coaching program.
About Toowoomba Grammar School
Toowoomba Grammar School was founded in 1875 and is a member school of the Great Public Schools Association of Queensland (GPS). It is an independent non-denominational day and boarding school for boys with a total enrolment of 1,200 from Preparatory to Year 12. There are approximately 300 boarders in the School coming predominantly from throughout Queensland, Northern New South Wales and the Northern Territory. The School's campus covers 20.5 hectares and is located one kilometre from the centre of Toowoomba.

About the Position
This position supports the delivery of a vibrant Learn to Swim and Squad program within the state-of-the-art Toowoomba Grammar School Aquatic Centre. Under the direction of the Aquatic Centre leadership team, you will plan and deliver engaging swimming lessons for a wide range of ages and abilities, while also contributing to our Squad program in collaboration with the Head Swim Coach.
Key Responsibilities
Learn to Swim Instruction:
* Deliver structured and engaging Learn to Swim lessons.
* Assess swimmer ability and progress, maintaining accurate records.
* Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment at all times.
* Support rostering, program planning, and substitute instruction as needed.
* Set up and pack down equipment, ensuring pool safety and cleanliness.
* Communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff.
Squad Coaching:
* Assist with Squad sessions under the direction of the Head Swim Coach.
* Conduct swimmer assessments and grading for squad placement.
* Attend and support swim meets and club nights when required.
* Contribute to planning and delivery of carnivals and events.
* Support early morning, evening, and occasional weekend sessions as rostered.
Selection Criteria:
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
* Current Learn to Swim qualification (Swim Australia / AUSTSWIM).
* Lifeguard Qualification (or willingness to obtain)
* Valid CPR and Senior First Aid Certification.
* QLD Working with Children Check (Blue Card).
* Experience teaching swimming to a range of ages and abilities.
* Demonstrated understanding of child development and water safety.
* Competitive swim coaching experience (State/National level desirable).
* Swim Squad Fundamentals Accreditation (or willingness to obtain).
* Experience using swimming software (e.g., Team Manager, Meet Manager, Splash).

* Highly organised with strong time management skills.
* Strong interpersonal and communication abilities.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
