We currently have a 1 FTE (Full Time Equivalent) fixed term position until 16/10/2026.

Position Profile

We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Clinical Psychologist for our AMBER Therapy Service (Attachment, Mind, Body, Emotion, Reconnection).

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team in a co-therapy model to provide assessments and trauma informed therapy to children who have been, abused or neglected, and their families. The scope of your work will include both immediate support and crisis interventions and managing a caseload for in-depth, long-term therapeutic work with families.

You will utilise your clinical experience and knowledge of abuse dynamics, attachment theory and the neurobiological impact of trauma, to inform individualised therapeutic plans and interventions.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of children and families by helping them to reduce trauma symptoms and achieve an embodied sense of safety - guiding them towards recovery.

Key Responsibilities


* Provide specialist trauma informed interventions to children who have experienced child abuse or neglect and their families.
* Conduct comprehensive screenings and assessments, considering factors such as their social, emotional, and psychological well-being, physical safety, family dynamic and living conditions to determine the unique needs of each child and family.
* Collaborate with a team member (clinical psychologists/social worker) to provide co-therapy, assessments and intervention plans that address the dynamics and impacts of childhood abuse and neglect, focusing on both parent and child.
* Manage interagency meetings and care teams to work towards collaboration and ensure the rights and needs of each child are prioritized within the community and health care system.
* Participate in regular individual and team supervision, to ensure the provision of high-quality care and your own continuous professional development.
* Provide education and training to staff and other professionals on relevant topics.

Whilst the ideal candidate will bring considerable experience in working in the area of child abuse and neglect they need to have a willingness to learn and be trained in all aspects of the models used by the AMBER service including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and NMT (Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics), attachment theories and trauma-informed care practices.

Please note a Masters or Doctoral Degree in Clinical Psychology and eligibility for full registration and Clinical Psychology Registrar status with the Psychology Board of Australia is a requirement for this role.

About Our Department

Based at Perth Children's Hospital, our dedicated Child Protection Unit (CPU) provide comprehensive state-wide service for children aged 0-16 where concerns of abuse or neglect have been reported. Our team are recognised for the complexity of our work and the highly developed skillset required. Our mission is to provide comprehensive, trauma-informed care to children and families, helping them heal and return to a healthy developmental trajectory.

We receive referrals from within PCH as well as from external sources including directly from families, other hospitals, GP's, Community Health, the Police and Department of Communities.
