The Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Network Security Specialist with experience in ensuring network engineering solutions, engineering patterns and services meet ACSC Essential Eight (E8), Information Security Manual (ISM) and additional relevant security policy throughout the design phase. This is not a hands-on operational. It is an advisory role focused on secure design and policy alignment. The role provides advice to Network Engineering teams on security requirements, design document reviews and the provision of advice to external stakeholders and Project teams ensuring that all ICT and cloud Network pattern solutions align with mandated cyber security standards before assurance activities and endorsement by Engineering Assurance Boards.
Our goal is to provide warfighters the required network connectivity needed to fight and win in the digital age. This role is critical to this, and will form part of larger project teams to drive the development of new solutions and deliver key capabilities.
About our Team
You will be part of a team of ICT professionals delivering complex projects across key Digital domains in both the Military and Enterprise Systems Divisions within Defence Digital Group (DDG). This role will provide technical advice in support of developing current and future Australian Defence Force (ADF) capability and technical engineering patterns to maintain current ADF ICT Networks.
As a Deployed Network Security Specialist in DDG, you may:
* Informal technical leadership of engineering pattern development activities such as workgroups.
* Contribute to a team of ICT professionals experienced in key technology platforms/products, or

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate demonstrates strong judgement in interpreting high level security guidance, including the Essential Eight and the Information Security Manual, and translating it into clear design requirements with defined acceptance criteria. They apply a pragmatic, risk?based approach that balances security, usability and delivery obligations, and can recommend appropriate compensating controls when preferred patterns cannot be implemented. The candidate contributes to development and reuse of standardised engineering patterns that strengthen security posture, reduce complexity and support consistent assurance across programs of work.
They communicate clearly and with influence, providing evidence based security advice tailored to technical specialists, project teams and senior leaders. They demonstrate expertise in network security and Zero Trust principles, anticipating integration challenges and guiding secure by design architectures. The candidate collaborates effectively across diverse APS and partner teams, adapts to environments with both legacy and modern technologies, and maintains accurate network documentation and engineering patterns on behalf of the Chief Engineer.
