Part-Time Electronic Systems Technician (Tax-Free Pay)
Your Role
Working with a team of highly trained technicians, you’ll have opportunities to maintain state-of-the-art electronic control systems, such as those used in the Abrams Tank and Australian Light Armoured Vehicle (ASLAV).
You could also work on advanced missile systems, bio-medical equipment, remote weapon systems, electronic surveillance devices and RADAR systems, among other Army equipment. When you meet with your unit, you’ll refine your technician skills, plan upcoming exercises and keep up your soldiering training.

The pay you receive in the Army Reserve goes straight into your pocket with no deductions for tax, and it increases as you gain seniority and experience.
On completion of your initial military and employment training, you could earn a package worth at least $240/day tax-free.
Additional amounts are paid for time spent on exercises and deployments.
Eligibility:
- Be at least 17 years of age when you enter the ADF
- Have completed an Australian Year 10 education (or equivalent) with passes in English and Mathematics
- Be an Australian citizen. If you are not an Australian Citizen you may still be eligible to join the ADF if you meet certain criteria, please visit the ADF Careers Eligibility Page for more details
- Be reasonably fit and healthy. Keeping fit is a big part of joining the ADF. You’ll need to pass a physical fitness test before you join, but don’t worry, we'll give you tips to help you prepare
- Be able to successfully obtain a security clearance
- You’ll need to have completed a Certificate III in Engineering – Electronics (i.e. be a qualified Electronics Technician, Communications Technician or Optical Technician) or have evidence of the completion of an approved apprenticeship or traineeship that predominately contains electronic competencies aligned to a Certificate III in Engineering – Electronics and any period of permanent employment stipulated for that trade
