Overview
Senior Financial Accountant (6-month contract) – Melbourne, Australia.
The Role
Reporting to the CFO, the Senior Financial Accountant is accountable for overseeing and executing financial accounting activities to ensure accuracy, compliance, and performance. Responsibilities include providing strategic financial insights, managing payroll, accounts payable/receivable, general accounts, wholesale and network settlements, revenue and cost of supplies assurance, and ensuring the integrity and timeliness of financial and industry reporting. The role requires collaboration with all departments (Commercial, Marketing, Operations, IT, Compliance) to align financial strategies with operational goals and support sustainability and growth of the organisation.
Responsibilities
Oversee and execute financial accounting activities with a focus on accuracy and compliance
Provide strategic financial insights and recommendations based on financial data
Manage payroll, accounts payable/receivable, general accounts, wholesale and network settlements
Ensure revenue and cost of supplies assurance and timely financial reporting
Collaborate with Commercial, Marketing, Operations, IT, and Compliance to align financial strategies with business goals
The Requirements
Degree in accounting, finance, or related field
At least 3–5 years of operational experience in an electricity retailer or the energy sector
Knowledge of regulatory requirements
Strategic thinker with high attention to detail, initiative, and ability to make independent decisions
Ability to develop and implement policies, processes, and procedures to achieve best performance
