Alcohol and Other Drug Support Worker Serenity House
Part-time 20 hours – weekend work and sleepover shifts included.
City Mission is seeking compassionate support workers to join our team at Serenity House.
Serenity House is a Sobering Up and Place of Safety facility located in Burnie, North-West Tasmania. It offers communal living under the support and supervision of trained staff, providing individuals with opportunities to consider long-term recovery options, including pathways to residential rehabilitation services.
Serenity House operates 24/7, including sleepover night shifts, requiring shift work on a 6-week rotating roster. This part-time role includes shifts on days, evenings, and sleepovers on weekdays and weekends. Casual hours may also be available.
Please note – this role involves Alcohol and Other Drugs Support, not Disability Support.
SELECTION CRITERIA
(Essential Qualifications/Experience):
* Minimum Cert IV in Community Services or Alcohol and Drug Services or an associated qualification, or willingness to undertake training towards this.
* Demonstrated experience and/or understanding of the alcohol and drug sector.
* Working With Vulnerable People card or willingness to obtain.
* Satisfactory national police check.
* Assist with medication management or willingness to undertake training.
Desirable Qualifications/Experience:
* Experience or capacity to work within an organisation adopting a Christian ethos.
* Understanding of homelessness and addiction-related issues.
* Knowledge of drugs and their effects, symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal.
* Experience in conducting alcohol and other drug assessments, brief interventions, and health interventions.
* Knowledge of motivational interviewing and relapse prevention strategies.
* Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
* Proven ability to support clients with complex needs and maintain professional relationships.
* Computer literacy, including Microsoft Office Suite.

The primary responsibilities include:
* Client supervision and support, monitoring adherence to policies.
* Providing appropriate care and support for clients.
* Maintaining accurate and professional records.
* Providing support overnight when required.
* Supporting property maintenance.
* Participating in ongoing personal and professional development.
This is a part-time position; salary will be based on the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010 [MA000100]. As a Public Benevolent Institution, LCM employees are eligible for salary packaging through our approved provider.
