A community-based service is seeking a Youth Mental Health Recovery Worker to provide person-centred, recovery-focused support to young people aged 12-25 experiencing mental ill-health, suicidal ideation and distress. The role supports a youth-specific pathway, provides escalation support across child/youth/family programs, and delivers tailored interventions for young people experiencing suicidal distress and/or homelessness risk.
Contract: Initial 4-month contract with strong potential to extend.
Hours: Full-time (38 hrs/week)
Location: Woden area with work across multiple sites; travel required.
Key responsibilities
* Provide youth-centred, solutions-focused recovery support and mental health interventions across multiple programs
* Deliver recovery-focused, strengths-based and harm-minimisation supports including suicide prevention, aftercare and distress management (1:1 and structured group formats)
* Conduct intake, risk and needs assessments; co-design goal-based support plans and safety strategies
* Provide advocacy and tailored support to address mental health barriers and strengthen housing stability pathways
* Apply family-inclusive and rights-based practices; work with families/carers where appropriate
* Participate in multidisciplinary meetings and case conferences; coordinate with external services (mental health, justice health, AOD and community providers)
* Maintain accurate documentation, risk assessments, outcome measures and case notes; contribute to evaluation and continuous improvement
* Attend occasional out-of-hours/weekend work where required (with TIL/overtime arrangements)
About you (essential)
* Minimum Diploma in Mental Health or equivalent (e.g., Peer Work, Community Services, AOD, social work, psychology)
* Minimum 2 years' experience in a recovery/support role within mental health or community services
* Experience delivering mental health support to young people aged 12-25
* Strong knowledge of suicide prevention interventions, crisis/distress management, safety planning, trauma-informed and recovery-oriented practice
* Confidence delivering outreach (referrals, monitoring, documentation) and building trust with young people and families/carers
* Strong advocacy, communication, and ability to work independently while contributing to a small team
* Driver licence + access to a comprehensively insured vehicle (kms reimbursed)
* ACT WWVP registration (including NDIS) + National Police Check
Desirable
* Knowledge of ACT mental health/community resources
* Understanding of housing options/tenancy rights/homelessness services and atleast one year experience in tenancy support experience
* Bachelor of Social Work (or similar)
