Curtin University is seeking a skilled Technician in Carpentry to join our Properties team and help maintain and enhance our diverse campus environment. This role plays a key part in delivering high-quality maintenance services that support Curtin's teaching, research and community activities.
About the Role
Reporting to the Service Manager - Buildings, you will provide comprehensive technical support across preventative, breakdown and emergency maintenance works. You will deliver responsive, customer-focused carpentry and building maintenance services while ensuring compliance with safety, statutory and University requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
* Undertake statutory, preventative, breakdown and emergency maintenance across university buildings and infrastructure
* Diagnose, repair, test and commission building systems and equipment
* Install, maintain and repair door hardware including mortise locks, digital and electronic locks, locksets and related systems
* Provide timely, professional service to university clients, including clear communication on timeframes, safety impacts and disruptions
* Liaise with other trades and supervise external contractors to ensure efficient, coordinated service delivery
* Maintain accurate records, reports and updates in the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
* Uphold Curtin's Values and always demonstrate professional conduct
What We're Looking For:
* Certificate III in Carpentry (or equivalent post-trade qualification) with extensive relevant experience
* Strong experience with door hardware, locking systems and related maintenance works
* Demonstrated analytical and diagnostic skills
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
* Well-developed written and verbal communication skills
* Experience using CMMS and Microsoft Office applications
* Sound knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety principles
* Ability to interpret technical drawings, manuals and specifications
Desirable
* Experience in a tertiary education environment or large, complex organisation
* Working knowledge of computerised maintenance management systems
Role Requirements:
1. As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered
2. Current WA Driver's Licence
3. Ability to participate in an after-hours call-out roster
4. Physical capability appropriate to the role
5. Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance, and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin's satisfaction
