Overview
Contribute to the provision of effective pathology services. Under general guidance from the Scientist in Charge, perform professional work in one or more sections of the Pathology Department, including normal and complex laboratory work under professional supervision.
The Team
Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service (NTPS) provides pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the Northern regions of Tasmania. We are the only public pathology service operating in North Tasmania, delivering high‑quality care to general practitioners, medical specialists, and private hospitals with no out‑of‑pocket expense for Medicare‑eligible tests. The team includes multidisciplinary scientists, technicians, non‑technical staff, and pathologists.
The Role
Assist the Medical Scientist in charge in performing duties relevant to the Anatomical Pathology department, including Histology and Cytology.
Responsibilities
* Apply professional judgement and scientific specialist knowledge to performance, analysis and troubleshooting of standard diagnostic procedures.
* Forge close professional relationships with inter‑departmental teams and confidentially communicate information with requestors and clinical personnel regarding samples, results or test‑related information.
Credentials & Experience
* Experience working as a Medical Scientist in a Histology and/or Cytology department.
* Membership of AIMS or ASC will be an advantage.
Eligibility & Qualifications
Tertiary qualification or program of study in Medical Laboratory Science, Biomedical Science, or an equivalent recognised institution.
Eligible for membership with a relevant professional body such as the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Scientists, Australasian Association for Clinical Biochemistry and Laboratory Medicine, Australian Society for Microbiology, Human Genetics Society of Australasia, or the Australian Society of Cytology. Where no relevant professional body exists, the essential qualification must be met.
Desirable: Membership/fellowship awarded by a recognised professional body.
Appointment Details
Permanent, full‑time day worker position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible. Hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant. This selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full‑time, part‑time, and casual vacancies for twelve months from the date of publication.
