About the role:
This role is based in Barcaldine on a casual basis. You will be responsible for providing relief support in the Visitor Information Centre and assisting in the library and Administration Office where required. If you are looking for a customer centric job that allows you to provide a service for your local community, this is the role for you. We are looking for someone with excellent customer service skills to join our team today.
The successful applicant will be responsible for:
* Managing the day-to-day operation of the Visitor Information Centre (including managing volunteers).
* Promoting existing tourist attractions through advertising campaigns, developing promotional literature, writing press releases, and copy for tourism guides/ newsletters.
* Undertaking tasks required to ensure the Visitor Information Centre remains accredited.
* Performing any other duties that are within the limits of your skill, competence, and training as directed.
* When working within the library; checking books and other materials in and out of the library system and maintain and uphold a high level of service.
* Assisting patrons in finding reference materials and leisure reading materials when asked, including assisting with navigating electronic records and periodicals.
* Providing an innovating and quality, customer focussed, library service to the Community.
Location: This position is based in Barcaldine, with Regional Work and Travel as required.
Classification Level: Minimum Level 2.1 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream A) Award – State 2017 and the Barcaldine Regional Council Certified Agreement 2025.
Payment of Wages: Council employees are paid fortnightly.
Hours of work: To be discussed with employee, hours may vary as work requires

What we are looking for:
* A passion for tourism, with a particular focus on regional tourism and an understanding of regional tourism issues, including a good knowledge of the Outback and our region.
* Excellent interpersonal skills to facilitate productive communication with other organisations, customers, and visitors.
* Proficiency in working independently.
* A currently Queensland Class \"C\" driver licence.

The Barcaldine Region is located in central west Queensland approximately 440km west of Rockhampton, covering an area of 53,677 sq km with an estimated population of 2,900 people.
The Regional Council is made up of the former Shires of Aramac, Barcaldine and Jericho including the towns of Alpha, Jericho, Barcaldine, Aramac and Muttaburra.
The region is one of the largest cattle producing regions in Central Western Queensland and also has a productive sheep, wool and macropod harvesting industry with the prospect of mining.
