Debating Committee Member Opportunity
This is an excellent chance to become involved in the debating program at the University of Sydney Union.
The Debates Committee governs the debating program, reviewing regulations and organizing events through various portfolios. As a committee member, you will work closely with the Director of Debates, supporting the provision of USU services and contributing to policy development.
This role requires a commitment for approximately 12 months, beginning in November. It is essential to be available during this period, with minimal holiday plans coinciding with the appointment. Members are expected to contribute to the success of the Debates program, working collaboratively as a team and adhering to Work health & Safety and Equal Employment Opportunity principles.
Responsibilities:
* Review and implement Debates regulations to ensure the program's integrity and consistency.
* Organize debating events through various portfolios, including but not limited to, tournament planning, event management, and logistics.
* Work closely with the Director of Debates to provide support and guidance to committee members and stakeholders.
* Contribute to policy development and service provision by participating in meetings, providing input on new initiatives, and collaborating with other committees and departments.
Selection Criteria:
* Current University of Sydney student status or willingness to maintain it throughout the appointment period.
* Active USU membership or a demonstrated ability to obtain it.
* Ability to commit to regular meetings and events, with minimal absence expected.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas clearly and concisely.
* Demonstrated involvement in the USU Debating Society, such as participation in tournaments, events, or volunteer roles.
* Demonstrated knowledge of USU and its activities, including understanding of its mission, values, and goals.
* Ability to work collaboratively as a team member or autonomously, with strong problem-solving and adaptability skills.
