The Role
We are looking for Cultural Heritage Consultants to join our team on full-time, casual and fixed term contracts.
The Cultural Heritage Consultant - Archaeologist role involves undertaking archaeological research, field surveys, reporting and cultural management advisory for relevant stakeholders. This role requires working within legislative frameworks and industry guidelines to craft rigorous research and accurate reporting based on expertly delivered fieldwork.
In this role, you will:
* Undertake desktop research and pre-survey preparations;
* Undertake archaeological assessments on field surveys and excavations within a team environment using basic project management principles;
* Undertake rigorous research and advanced analytical assessments;
* Draft preliminary and final reports based on the field studies;
* Provide high-level technical advisory and recommendations for cultural heritage management to relevant stakeholders;
* Liaise with Aboriginal groups and representatives in a culturally appropriate manner; and
* Provide meaningful guidance and mentorship to junior Heritage Consultants.
Your Essential Experience & Skills
* Bachelor's degree in Archaeology (preferably with Honors).
* 4+ years' experience, ideally gained within a consultancy in the heritage industry.
* Expert level understanding of WA heritage legislation, particularly the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 1972 (WA) and Burra Charter Principles.
* Demonstrated experience in field investigations, surveys and heritage recording, cultural mapping and impact assessment.
* Specialist skills such as artefact analysis, Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Site Identification Analysis, excavation techniques, QGIS, and/or heritage interpretation.
* Ability to contribute to the preparation of cultural heritage reports such as archaeological salvage and Cultural Heritage Management Plans (CHMPs).
* Experience working with stakeholders in cultural heritage management.
* Applied knowledge of GIS platforms (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS).
* Demonstrated ability to meet Risk Management, Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements.
* Technically proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
* Valid Australian Drivers' license (manual).
The Fieldwork
* The fieldwork season runs from February to November.
* Pilbara-based fieldwork is undertaken in ten-day increments with options to participate in up to eight trips annually.
* Lead and/or assist on surveys based on your level of experience and skills.
