Position Overview
The Leading Hand Landscaper is responsible for coordinating and overseeing on-site landscaping works, ensuring quality standards are met, and guiding a small team of landscapers and apprentices. This hands-on role involves both leadership and physical labour, working closely with site supervisors to complete residential or commercial landscaping projects on time and to specification.
Key Responsibilities:
* Supervise and lead a team of landscape workers on-site
* Interpret and work from landscape plans and drawings
* Coordinate daily tasks and allocate duties to team members
* Operate machinery and tools (e.g. excavators, skid steers, compactors, power tools)
* Install irrigation systems, paving, decking, retaining walls, turf, plants, mulch and other landscape features
* Ensure compliance with safety procedures and company policies
* Liaise with clients, suppliers and contractors as required
* Monitor quality of work and troubleshoot issues on-site
* Maintain site cleanliness and organisation
* Assist with ordering and receiving materials
* Report project progress to Director
Skills & Experience Required:
* Minimum 3–5 years' landscaping experience (structural and soft landscaping)
* Ability to read and interpret landscape construction plans
* Strong communication and team coordination skills
* Experience with landscape machinery
* White Card (Construction Induction Card)
* Manual Driver's Licence (HR licence an advantage)
* Cert III in Landscape Construction (preferred but not essential)
* First Aid (desirable)
