Child Protection Specialist Counsellor
This position provides therapeutic intervention to children, young people, and their families when physical abuse, emotional abuse, neglect, and/or domestic violence has occurred within the family.
The clinician's role is highly specialised and complex, focusing on maintaining the child or young person in their family where possible, with the intention of preventing recurrence of abuse, as well as preventing placement breakdown, and assisting families to address the impacts and effects of the abuse and neglect.
Therapeutic counselling will be a core task of this position, however coordination of health service delivery to the child and advocacy for client interests within the child protection response will also be significant responsibilities. Clinicians will provide consultation, support, and education/training for health workers on child protection issues and concerns.
Servicing vulnerable populations, these services are integrated and work alongside each other to collaborate on joint projects, training, and joint work with clients and families as required.
