About the role:
Barcaldine Regional Council is looking for an experienced IT specialist to develop and manage our Council's IT strategy and capabilities. Within this role you will be responsible for resolving IT requests, working collaboratively with Council's MSP (Managed Service Provider) to implement IT strategy, providing expert advice on corporate applications and software integrations, delivering and developing user training, and working closely with the MSP to monitor and address Council's IT and cyber security risks.
Key Responsibilities:
* Collaboratively resolve IT service requests from staff across five towns and 20+ sites, troubleshooting issues related to IT equipment, printers, photocopiers, phones, mobile devices, networking, hardware, and software to maintain daily operational functionality, escalating complex technical matters to the MSP as required.
* Diagnose and resolve networking issues, connectivity problems, and hardware/software conflicts, escalating complex technical matters to the MSP as required.
* Travel regularly across the region to provide on-site IT support, device deployment, and troubleshooting at Council's dispersed locations.
* Work collaboratively with Council's Managed Service Provider to implement IT strategy, advising on strategic needs, operational requirements, and opportunities to enhance Council's IT environment.
* Contribute to the development and implementation of the Council's IT roadmap, ensuring alignment with organisational goals and identifying opportunities to lift IT service delivery.
* Provide expert knowledge and advice on corporate applications, software integrations, and the interconnections between systems, devices, and platforms to ensure a highly functional and productive IT environment.
* Identify IT-related issues, challenges, and opportunities across the organisation, working with the MSP and internal stakeholders to develop and implement solutions.
* Deliver user training and support for onboarding new staff, enhancing system knowledge of existing staff, and promoting effective use of corporate applications and technologies.
* Work closely with Council's MSP to monitor and address IT and cyber security risks across Council's dispersed operations.

Location: Based in the Barcaldine Region with regional travel as required.
Classification Level: Level 5.1 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream A) Award - State 2017 and Barcaldine Regional Council Certified Agreement 2025.
Wage: Minimum base salary of $85,792.20 per annum + 12% Superannuation contribution and any additional relevant benefits.
Payment of Wages: Council employees are paid fortnightly.
Hours of work: 72.5 hours over 9 days with a rostered day off (RDO) every fortnight.
Leave: Five (5) weeks annual leave per annum + 17.5% loading. Fifteen (15) days Personal Leave (sick leave) per annum.

What we are looking for:
* Diploma or higher qualification in Information Technology, or equivalent demonstrated experience in a corporate IT environment.
* Current Queensland class 'C' Driver Licence.
* Demonstrated experience in corporate IT operations across multi-site environments, including troubleshooting networking, hardware, and software issues, deploying and configuring devices, and maintaining operational functionality across dispersed sites.
* Proven technical expertise in networking fundamentals, Windows environments, Microsoft Office Suite, and corporate business applications (such as finance systems, records management, asset management), with an understanding of system interconnections and the ability to diagnose and resolve connectivity and integration issues.
* Experience working collaboratively with Managed Service Providers or external IT support teams to deliver IT services, implement strategic initiatives, and provide advice to improve IT service delivery and organisational productivity.
* Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to work independently, make sound technical decisions, and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
* Previous experience working in Local Government or dispersed regional operations (Desirable).
* Industry certifications in networking, Microsoft technologies, or cyber security (Desirable).
* Experience with local government ERP systems (Desirable).

The Barcaldine Region is located in central west Queensland approximately 440km west of Rockhampton, covering an area of 53,677 sq km with an estimated population of 2,900 people.
The Regional Council is made up of the former Shires of Aramac, Barcaldine and Jericho including the towns of Alpha, Jericho, Barcaldine, Aramac and Muttaburra.
The region is one of the largest cattle producing regions in Central Western Queensland and also has a productive sheep, wool and macropod harvesting industry with the prospect of mining.
