In the Northern Prawn Fishery, out of Karumba (NQ) Raptis operates fourteen modern 23‑metre steel trawlers, each equipped with comprehensive refrigeration and electrical systems powered by Caterpillar or Cummins marine engines.
The fishing crew comprises a Skipper, Engineer, Mate, Deckhands and Cook.
The fleet is supported by extensive on‑shore administration, support vessels and shore‑based engineering services.
Season Schedule
* Banana Prawn Fishing Season: starts annually in April for 6 to 8 weeks.
* Tiger Prawn Fishing Season: starts annually in August for 12 to 16 weeks.
Requirements
* Marine Engineers must hold either Marine Engine Driver – MED 1 or MED 2 qualifications with refrigeration endorsement, ARC Licence, First Aid, and commercial fishing or sea experience.
* Mates, Deckhands and Cooks: at‑sea experience preferred.
Expressions of interest for crewing positions are passed along to Skippers, who are independent contractors responsible for vessel operations and crew selection.
The North Queensland Prawn Fishery is Australia's largest and most valuable fishery. Crew members receive a share of the value of the catch.
