Some career choices have more impact than others.
The Institutional Sales team within Markets & Securities Services at HSBC Australia is responsible for servicing Australian and New Zealand based institutional clients across multiple products. We have an opportunity to join the team with a focus on securities financing including flow repo and financing trades (bilateral and triparty repo, collateral upgrades, term funding and central bank facility trades) across credit & rates asset classes.
Taking on this role, you will manage accurate execution, booking and lifecycle management of financing trades in line with risk, control and documentation standards, and provide cross‑asset support to clients such as banks, Non Bank Financial Institutions, fund managers, financial sponsors and superannuation funds.
With your natural ability to build strong client relationships, you will originate, project manage and execute transactions, working with stakeholders across the business including Trading, Structuring, Financial Institutions Group (FIG) and Institutional Coverage Group (ICG). You will also manage and trouble‑shoot operational aspects of projects, helping to negotiate legal documentation and commercial terms.
This is a great opportunity to join an Institutional Sales business with a collaborative team culture in a global organisation, where you will be able to continue to develop, expand your knowledge and experience across multiple products, rather than being siloed.
Responsibilities
* Day‑to‑day coverage of institutional clients in Australia and New Zealand, primarily over repo and other financing trades in line with risk limits, including originating and growing the financing business.
* Managing the trade lifecycle in partnership with middle office and operations, including bookings, amendments, collateral movements, margining, settlement and fails management.
* Supporting use of central bank funding and liquidity facilities, ensuring adherence to eligibility, process and control requirements.
* Applying understanding of documentation and limits required for various trades.
* Working closely with Trading, Structuring, FIG, ICG and control functions to deliver integrated credit, repo and financing solutions and provide data/commentary into internal reviews and product discussions across products and asset classes.
* Providing an additional level of support to the wider institutional sales team across asset classes and products where possible.
* Supporting HSBC’s values around inclusivity and diversity.
Requirements
* Solid experience in a Markets Sales role, ideally across one or more of: repo/securities finance, short‑term funding, fixed income, or derivatives/structured products. Experience in a multi‑asset or cross‑product environment and exposure to institutional clients is preferred.
* Existing sales relationships in the Australian and New Zealand markets will be an advantage but not essential.
* Practical experience in booking repo or other financing trades, with a high attention to detail.
* A strong risk focus, maintaining controls, along with an exemplary conduct and compliance track record.
* Working knowledge of key legal frameworks (GMRA, GMSLA, ISDA) and bespoke trade specific legal documentation.
* Ability to build and maintain strong internal stakeholder relationships locally and globally.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across products and desks.
* A high degree of self‑motivation and adaptability to contribute towards our ambitious growth strategy.
* University Degree or advanced qualifications in a relevant discipline.
Preference will be given to candidates who hold Australian PR/Citizenship or New Zealand Citizenship, or who can demonstrate current unrestricted work rights in Australia without limitations.
