Contract: 12‑month initial contract + potential extensions

Location: Melbourne, VIC

About the Opportunity

This role offers the chance to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based mental health assessment and counselling services to veterans and their families. You will work within a multidisciplinary environment that values clinical excellence, continuous learning, and client‑centred care.

Ongoing professional development and funded clinical supervision are provided to support your growth and maintain strong clinical standards.

About the Role

As a Clinician, you will deliver trauma‑informed, evidence‑based mental health services to current and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their loved ones. Your background in psychology, social work, counselling, occupational therapy, or nursing will enable you to build rapport, understand unique experiences, and support clients in achieving meaningful wellbeing outcomes.

You will conduct assessments, provide counselling, maintain clinical documentation, participate in supervision, and collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to ensure high‑quality care delivery.

Key Responsibilities

* Provide evidence‑based clinical services including risk assessment, intervention, counselling (individual, couple, and family), and case management.
* Complete regular reviews of client progress and adjust treatment plans as required.
* Maintain accurate and confidential clinical documentation, including progress notes, risk assessments and care plans.
* Participate in professional development activities and clinical supervision.
* Adhere to all relevant legislation, ethical standards and organisational policies.
* Attend clinical meetings and case reviews with senior clinical staff.
* Liaise with family members, treatment providers and stakeholders to coordinate care.
* Support group program facilitation, community engagement, and service promotion activities.
* Participate in evaluation and quality improvement activities.
* Assist with intake assessments and the allocation of clients to appropriate services.

Key Skills & Attributes

* Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a trauma‑informed, client‑centred approach.
* Ability to complete comprehensive intake assessments and formulate clear, actionable risk assessments.
* Understanding of relevant policies, procedures and risk escalation pathways.
* High‑level written and verbal communication skills.
* Ability to remain calm and use sound judgement in complex or critical situations.
* Strong IT literacy and confidence navigating clinical systems.

Mandatory Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following:

* Registration as a Psychologist (general or provisional), Occupational Therapist or Registered Nurse with AHPRA, or
* Social Worker with AASW membership, or
* Masters‑level Counsellor registered with PACFA (Clinical) or ACA (Level 3 or 4).

You must also hold, or be eligible to obtain:

* Working with Vulnerable People registration or
* Working with Children Check.
