Remuneration: $145,062 - $153,976 pa HEW Level 09 (plus 17% employer superannuation)

The Opportunity

The Manager, Safety & Intake plays a critical leadership role in supporting the Safer Community Unit and Coordination, Assessment, Referral, Education (CARE) Services through the effective oversight of intake, triage and referral functions across the Monash Group. Leading a team of Intake Specialists, the position ensures timely, trauma‐informed responses to complex and high‐risk matters, while driving continuous improvement, innovation and best‐practice service delivery across Safety and Support Services.

This position will be responsible for overseeing the intake, triage and assessment of enquiries, reports and referrals across the Monash Group, ensuring timely and appropriate responses to complex, urgent and high‐risk matters. The role will provide expert guidance on escalation and referral pathways, chair intake and triage meetings, and lead the allocation of cases to appropriate support services. It will manage and develop a specialist intake team, oversee administrative and operational functions supporting Safety and Support Services, and drive strategic projects focused on service innovation, process improvement and best‐practice trauma‐informed responses.

The position will also build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, contribute to communications, training and resource development, ensure compliance with legislation and university policy, and maintain accurate reporting, records management and performance metrics.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you will have postgraduate qualifications and extensive experience in counselling, social work, psychology or a related field, together with demonstrated expertise leading specialist teams in complex behavioural and mental health triage environments.

You will bring strong knowledge of trauma‐informed practice, risk assessment and referral pathways, alongside exceptional leadership, stakeholder engagement and communication skills. The role requires highly developed judgement, resilience and interpersonal capability, including the ability to manage sensitive and high‐pressure situations with professionalism and empathy.

Prior experience within the higher education sector, together with an understanding of relevant legislation and frameworks, including the National Higher Education Code to Prevent and Respond to Gender‐based Violence, will be highly regarded.
