The Leading Hand is required to lead staff in the safe and efficient delivery of Open Space capital works and maintenance programs. The objectives of this position are:
• Lead work crews and ensure efficient deployment of council resources.
• Deliver quality outcomes that align with Council’s Open Space Service Delivery Standards.
The achievement of these objectives will be measured through the efficient and economical utilisation of plant, labour and materials, with strong emphasis on compliance with Councils Safety Management System.
Employment Status: Full Time, Limited Tenure; Up to 26 June 2026
Award: Level 6 of the Queensland Local Government Industry (Stream B) Award – State 2017
Salary Range: $2,632.20 gross per fortnight.
ABOUT YOU
The successful candidate will have:
Essential Knowledge, skills and abilities |
- Comprehensive experience and knowledge in the various areas of amenity horticulture.
- Under minimal supervision, effectively lead and work within a team setting.
- Considerable time management and organisational skills with the ability to determine work priorities.
- Ability to safely and competently operate a variety of handheld tools, plant and equipment.
- The ability to successfully impart knowledge and give clear instructions to subordinate staff.
- Satisfactory written and verbal communication skills including the ability to liaise with a wide range of people at all levels.
- Understanding of basic water quality principals and ability to carry out basic water testing.
- Sound numeracy and literacy skills, with an ability to operate computer and electronic devices.
- Commitment to safe working practices, with the ability to identify, resolve and report workplace health and safety issues appropriately.
- Commitment to superior customer service.
Essential Education/Qualifications |
- General Safety Induction Certificate (Construction Industry) “Blue/White Card”.
- Certificate II in Horticulture or equivalent.
- Suitable qualifications to undertake Park Playground inspections and identify risks and hazards and necessary rectification works
Essential Licences |
- Possession and maintenance of a Queensland ‘C’ Class Driver Licence.
Physical Requirements / Position Environment |
- This position requires the incumbent to undertake field work exposed to inclement weather.
- The ability to carry out the physical requirements of the position – manual handling, physical labour.
- This position may be required to work weekends and/or overtime as directed.
- This position may be required to work and camp throughout the Council region.
