Position summary

The Community Development Specialist leads the planning, coordination and delivery of community development initiatives for new and emerging communities from refugee, asylum seeker and migrant backgrounds, with a focus on family and sexual violence prevention. Working with a high level of autonomy, the role applies a strengths-based, human rights and family-violence-prevention approach to support respectful relationships, social connection, and positive settlement outcomes.

The role specifically leads projects that:

* Strengthen collaboration between multicultural community organisations and specialist family and sexual violence services, so that victim survivors or people using violence from multicultural communities can access culturally responsive, safe, and tailored supports.
* Support multicultural and faith communities to prevent family violence through education, engagement, and culturally safe capacity building.

The position oversees reporting, monitoring and evaluation, and works in partnership with mainstream services across the Barwon Region to strengthen referral pathways, share knowledge, and ensure culturally safe service delivery.

This position will be contracted on a fixed term part time basis until 31 December 2026, working 22.5 hours per week.

Duties
* Lead the planning, delivery and evaluation of community development and family/sexual violence prevention projects.
* Contribute to a positive, culturally safe and collaborative team environment.
* Provide day-to-day supervision, guidance and support to project staff, students or volunteers involved in community development activities contributing to a positive, collaborative team environment.
* Apply strengths-based, human rights and family-violence-prevention approaches in all work.
* Strengthen collaboration between multicultural and faith communities, community organisations, and specialist family and sexual violence services to improve access to culturally safe and tailored supports.
* Complete project reports, monitoring and evaluation to demonstrate outcomes and support continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Experience
* Extensive experience working with migrant, refugee, and multicultural/faith communities, including knowledge of settlement processes and systemic barriers.
* Demonstrated experience leading projects, coordinating work plans, and supervising staff where relevant.
* Expertise in co-design, community engagement, and community-led program delivery.
* Experience leading family and/or sexual violence prevention projects and working in partnership with specialist services.
* Strong knowledge of MARAM and the mainstream family and sexual violence service system
