About the Role
The Senior Case Practitioner plays a leadership role within the Galnya Yarka program, providing advanced oversight of complex child protection casework to ensure culturally safe, trauma-informed practice grounded in Aboriginal ways of working. Operating under Section 18 authorisation, the role supports the safety, wellbeing, and cultural identity of Aboriginal children and young people subject to Child Protection Orders.
The position involves leading complex cases, supporting families to address protective concerns, and working toward reunification where possible. The Senior Case Practitioner provides supervision, mentoring, and practice guidance to Case Practitioners and Case Support Workers, models reflective and culturally informed decision-making, and contributes to court processes, cultural planning, and advocacy for children and young people.

About You - Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills:
Qualifications and Registration
* Diploma in Community Services, Social Work, or a related discipline.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
You will bring strong cultural knowledge, leadership capability, and experience working in complex child protection environments, including:
* Demonstrated understanding of Aboriginal culture, history, and intergenerational trauma, with the ability to apply culturally safe practices that support identity and community connection.
* Sound knowledge of the Children, Youth and Families Act 2005, including the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle, Child Protection processes, reunification, and court procedures.
* Proven ability to manage complex casework involving Aboriginal children, young people, and families, including risk assessment, safety planning, referrals, and culturally responsive interventions.
* Strong understanding of child and youth development, cumulative harm, and wellbeing, with the ability to assess and respond appropriately.
* Well-developed assessment, investigative, communication, and report-writing skills, including documentation for court.
* Experience working collaboratively with Aboriginal communities and external stakeholders, with strong knowledge of local service systems.
* Demonstrated professionalism, resilience, and ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments.
* Capacity to provide leadership, mentoring, and reflective practice support to Case Practitioners and Case Support Workers.
