Job Details:We are seeking a Build Automation Technical Specialist (Advanced Practitioner) to join a high-assurance Defence environment supporting the design, build and automation of complex ICT systems.This is a hands-on technical role within a DevSecOps team responsible for building and maintaining secure system environments that underpin large-scale systems integration, testing and validation activities.You will work as part of a small, specialist team focused on automation, infrastructure-as-code, and system orchestration, contributing directly to the development of tooling that streamlines the build, configuration and deployment of deployable ICT nodes.The role operates in a secure, mission-critical environment and requires strong technical autonomy, disciplined engineering practices, and the ability to engage effectively with Defence technical stakeholders.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop build automation tools to support system configuration and deployment.Implement scripting, automation and orchestration solutions across secure environments.Maintain and enhance DevSecOps toolchains and supporting infrastructure.Contribute to disaster recovery solutions using VMware technologies.Develop and maintain technical documentation for automation tools and system components.Support configuration management and version-controlled infrastructure deployments.Provide SME input into technical risk management, system upgrades and capability expansion.Engage with Defence technical stakeholders and contribute to integration planning.

Desirable CriteriaHighly desirable:10+ years’ experience in secure ICT systems within Defence environmentsDesirable:Experience with defence systems such as JP 2221-1 AUS MPE, EDLAN or deployed networksVulnerability scanning, secrets management, identity and access controlFamiliarity with NIST, ISO 27001, ASD Essential EightExperience working in air-gapped / internet-disconnected environmentsCloud or hybrid cloud experienceAdditional RequirementsMust be able to satisfy ITAR compliance requirementsWillingness to undertake interstate and potential international travelThree-month probation period appliesMust work within secure Defence facilities and comply with Defence security policies
