The Opportunity
We are on the search for a permanent full-time Estimator to join our team located in Canberra.
Reporting to the National Bid Manager, who will be there to help you every step of the way, you will utilise your tertiary education and the knowledge and resources of the AMA Projects team to formulate costs for tender submissions.
As an Estimator in our team, you will be responsible for preparing cost estimates from architectural drawings, engineering drawings, subcontractor quotes and site inspections, to support the AMA Projects team in winning and delivering projects. Tasks include:
* Assisting the Bid Manager in the preparation of tenders for a diverse range of projects and clients, ranging up to $30 million in value.
* Preparation of material lists, producing bills of quantities for tendering purposes and advising clients on budget requirements.
* Review and interpretation of architectural and engineering drawings and specifications to estimate total costs
* Attending site inspections to assess scope of works and report on potential risks.
* Monitor addenda and variations of design to assess effects on costs.
* Liaising with architects, engineers, subcontractors and suppliers to ensure they have an in-depth understanding of the building program and scope of works.
* Preparation of preliminary cost estimates from sketches and statements of requirements
* Advising on costs for alterations to existing buildings or structures, on various materials and construction methods.
* Preparation of final cost statements; evaluating and comparing suppliers and subcontractor pricing to ensure competitive and accurate pricing throughout the tender period.
* Maintenance of the AMA Projects database of consultants and subcontractors to price and perform construction works.
What we are looking for?
The successful candidate will be committed to quality and our clients, and lead with integrity. We are looking for someone who can display the following skills and attributes:
Required:
* A relevant degree
* Minimum 3 years’ experience in the construction industry - preferably fitout/refurbishments
* Ability to review and understand Tender Documentation (RFT’s, drawings, schedules, specifications)
* High level Microsoft Excel knowledge,
* Exceptional attention to detail and time management stills
* A strong work ethic and the ability to work well autonomously by yourself or within a team
* Located in Canberra
Desirable:
* A genuine passion for the building and construction industry
* Familiarity with E1 and Bluebeam software applications
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* A White Card, Asbestos Awareness, Silica Awareness and First Aid training
* Experience working across the Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane construction industry
