Overview
Head of Learning Area – Arts (HOLA) – permanent full-time position at Comet Bay College, Department of Education, Western Australia, commencing Term 1, 2026. A background in Media is desirable. The Arts department invites a dedicated and knowledgeable leader to lead and inspire staff and students in The Arts.
Responsibilities
- Lead and inspire staff and students in The Arts; provide direction and purpose to staff; build team capacity and positive learning environments for all students.
- Develop and maintain effective teaching and learning practices; support and promote quality leadership and collegiality with school leaders and teachers.
- Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of the College’s Teaching and Learning focus in The Arts (as articulated in the College Business Plan); act as the school contact for the IMSS program.
- Curriculum: analyse system and school data to inform planning; ensure quality assurance of existing offerings; support Gifted and Talented (GAT) curriculum; moderation and alignment with SCSA requirements; track Business Plan targets.
- Instruction: implement assessment and feedback models; conduct classroom observation and feedback; support explicit teaching in The Arts; contribute to the college instructional intelligence program and coaching.
- Support: student academic profiling; implement General Capabilities; promote student engagement and higher order thinking; liaise with external support as appropriate; oversee Performance and Development of The Arts team.
- Innovation: contribute to STEAM integration and ICT in the classroom; assist with strategic planning as required.
Qualifications and Experience
- Enthusiastic, outstanding leader and excellent classroom practitioner with a passion for teaching and learning; ability to collaborate and build partnerships.
- Strong communication, organisational and interpersonal skills; ability to work with school leaders and teachers to foster a culture of professional discourse.
- Desirable background in Media; capacity to guide high-quality teaching and learning in The Arts.
- Ability to provide direction, oversee staff development and maintain positive learning environments for students.
Eligibility
- Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident or have a valid visa with work rights for the term of the appointment.
- Hold registration with the Teacher Registration Board of Western Australia.
- Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start; consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit before you start.
