Offer description

This is a great Senior Emergency Medicine opportunity with leadership responsibilities.

Head Medical is seeking experienced Emergency Medicine doctors to join a dynamic team within the Hunter New England Local Health District. These positions are suitable for UK doctors not yet on the specialist register but with strong middle-grade experience.

Highlights

* Tertiary Trauma Centre: Join a high-acuity ED with over 70,000 annual presentations, handling adult, paediatric, trauma, and sub-specialty cases.
* Leadership in Action: Take charge of shifts, supervise junior staff, coordinate patient flow, and make critical decisions in a fast-paced environment.
* Training & Progression: Full access to ACEM-accredited education, simulation training, and mentorship for advanced clinical and supervisory roles.
* Work–Life Balance by the Coast: Located in Newcastle near beaches, with affordable housing and a vibrant community—ideal for urban lifestyle lovers.

Step into a broad, hands-on Emergency Medicine role with supportive senior cover, excellent lifestyle perks, and future career growth

The Role

* Lead Shifts: Manage daily ED operations, supervise junior clinicians, liaise with consultants and other departments.
* Direct Patient Care: Assess and treat patients with a wide range of acute presentations, including trauma, medical, surgical, paediatric, and mental health.
* On-Call Duties: Participate in a structured roster covering after-hours and weekend shifts, with senior consultant backup.
* Clinical Leadership: Promote best practices in triage, patient flow, quality improvement, and departmental governance.
* Education & Teaching: Contribute to in-clinic teaching, case discussions, and ACEM-directed professional development sessions.

You will be rostered as a senior member of the emergency team, covering:

* Resus bays, trauma calls, and acute patient management.
* Triage supervision and support for junior doctors.
* ED fast-track and short stay unit care.
* On-site consultant (FACEM) support and structured onboarding.

These impactful roles offer hands-on leadership with excellent support for professional growth.

The Location

You will work across a network including John Hunter Hospital, a major tertiary trauma centre; Belmont Hospital, a community-based ED; or Maitland Hospital, a modern acute care facility. Site allocation depends on service needs and your experience.

Living in Newcastle offers the perfect blend of career opportunity and lifestyle:

* Relaxed coastal living with world-class beaches nearby.
* Vibrant city atmosphere without Sydney's traffic or high cost of living.
* Great for families—excellent schools, outdoor activities, and a strong community.
* Explore the Hunter Valley wine region, surf, hike, or enjoy the sunshine.
