Offer description

What a wonderful opportunity for an established biodiversity or ecology leader to join a fast growing environmental consultancy. You will be working alongside and supported by the Managing Director to develop and scale the internal biodiversity service offering. Currently this business punches above its weight working some of the regions most complex projects. Notably with a strong foothold in the NSW and QLD renewable energy sectors.

Key Responsibilities
* Team Leadership & Growth: Lead and mentor a growing team of ecologists in the Newcastle/Hunter region, fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
* BAM Delivery: Act as the lead Accredited Assessor for Biodiversity Development Assessment Reports (BDAR) and Biodiversity Certification Assessment Reports (BCAR).
* Commercial Management: Oversee project budgets, resource allocation, and the commercial performance of the ecology workstream.
* Strategic Client Advisory: Act as a trusted advisor to clients, helping them navigate the complexities of the NSW Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 and the Biodiversity Offsets Scheme (BOS).
* Business Development: Use your local network and commercial acumen to identify new opportunities and lead the preparation of winning technical proposals.
* Technical Review: Ensure the highest standard of QA for all ecological reporting, ensuring compliance with state and federal legislative requirements.
Prerequisites & Experience
* BAM Accreditation: Greatly advantageous to possess a BAM accreditation.
* Experience: 10+ years of professional experience in ecological consulting, with a strong track record in the NSW market.
* Leadership Skills: Proven experience in managing a team or leading a project workstream within a consultancy environment.
* Commercial Acumen: A clear understanding of project profitability, fee structures, and the \"win and deliver\" mindset.
* A degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Botany, or a related discipline.
* Communication: Exceptional report-writing skills and the ability to negotiate effectively with regulatory bodies (DCCEEW, DPE, and Local Councils).
Why This Role?
* The Best of Both Worlds: The autonomy of a boutique firm with the project pipeline of a much larger player.
* Career Path: Direct influence on the direction of the ecology division with a clear pathway to Principal or Director levels.
