About the Role
An exciting short-term opportunity exists for an experienced Storage Infrastructure Specialist to join a leading national institution responsible for preserving Australias cultural heritage. Following recent infrastructure upgrades the successful candidate will play a key role in optimising a complex Dell PowerScale and Isilon storage environment ensuring peak performance efficiency and scalability across petabyte-scale workflows.
This role will focus on improving system architecture creating detailed documentation and delivering structured knowledge transfer to internal ICT teams. Its a great opportunity to contribute to a high-impact project that supports Australias audiovisual archive infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct a full technical audit of the current storage architecture and provide comprehensive reporting on system health risks and opportunities.
Develop detailed architecture diagrams and operational runbooks to guide administration and maintenance activities.
Review and optimise storage cluster configurations across all-flash archive and legacy nodes.
Analyse and improve PowerScale data services (SmartPools SnapshotIQ SyncIQ etc.) and tiering strategies.
Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks to enhance storage reliability and throughput.
Deliver knowledge transfer sessions and build capability within the ICT team.
Prepare capacity forecasts and provide strategic recommendations for future scalability.
Skills and Experience
Extensive hands-on experience with Dell PowerScale and Isilon (OneFS 8.x / 9.x) environments.
Proven expertise in designing administering and optimising enterprise-scale storage infrastructure for high-performance and large data workflows.
Strong understanding of scale-out NAS architecture tiering and data services.
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex multi-protocol (SMB / NFS) issues.
Excellent documentation and communication skills with the ability to convey technical insights to non-technical stakeholders.
Knowledge of storage security data protection and lifecycle management (replication backup / recovery access control).
Scripting skills (Python / Bash) for automation or data analysis are highly desirable.
