Offer description

Overview

Located in the beautiful Darling Downs South-West region of Southern Queensland, the Southern Downs local government area is approximately 160 kilometres south-west of Brisbane. The region features vibrant rural centres and charming townships built on strong agricultural foundations. Surrounded by World Heritage listed national parks and stunning landscapes, the area is also emerging as a renowned gourmet food and wine destination, with a lively calendar of cultural, community and sporting events.

Southern Downs Regional Council is seeking an experienced Project Management Specialist to join its Project Management Office within the Infrastructure, Assets and Projects Directorate. This role offers the opportunity to lead the delivery of significant projects while helping to strengthen project management capability across the organisation.

Responsibilities

The Project Management Specialist plays a critical role in developing, delivering, monitoring and evaluating projects that support Council\'s strategic objectives. Working closely with the Manager Project Management Office, the position ensures projects are delivered in accordance with Council\'s Project Management Framework while supporting the organisation to improve project planning, governance and delivery standards.

This role will manage and monitor project performance, budgets and schedules while providing mentoring and support to project teams across Council. The position also contributes to improving project delivery practices by promoting consistent methodologies, supporting procurement processes, overseeing documentation and reporting, and ensuring appropriate risk and issue management. In addition to directly delivering projects, the role will assist staff across the organisation to develop scopes of work, specifications, tender documentation and contract arrangements that support successful project outcomes.

Qualifications

The successful candidate will bring strong project and program management experience, with demonstrated ability to deliver projects within agreed schedules, budgets and governance frameworks. Experience in infrastructure delivery, including civil works, parks, construction or water and wastewater projects, will be highly regarded. Local government experience is desirable, particularly an understanding of governance processes and infrastructure project delivery within a public sector environment.

Tertiary qualifications in project management are essential, while certifications such as PRINCE2 or PMBOK are advantageous but not mandatory. A White Construction Card and Blue Card, or ability to obtain, are also required.

Opportunity and Team

This is an excellent opportunity to join a newly formed team and contribute to a growing region while working within a collaborative organisation focused on delivering meaningful outcomes for its communities.
