About the Business
Prosail Queensland operates a commercial fleet of Maxi sailing vessels, tenders, and support craft, as well as a 20m private charter catamaran. The business delivers charter and marine operations requiring strict compliance with Australian Maritime Safety Standards. Due to operational complexity and continuous vessel usage, the business requires a skilled Shipwright/ Boat builder and repairer to ensure all vessels remain seaworthy, compliant, and operational at all times.
This position is responsible for constructing, maintaining, repairing, and refurbishing marine vessels and associated systems. The role ensures all vessels meet regulatory survey requirements and operate safely and efficiently.
* Maintain, service and repair marine vessels including hull structures, fittings and onboard systems in accordance with maritime standards
* Diagnose faults and undertake repair of mechanical, structural and electrical components of vessels
* Plan and execute routine and preventative maintenance programs to ensure vessel reliability and compliance
* Undertake vessel slipping, haul-out works, inspections, and large-scale repair or modification projects
* Repair and maintain timber, fibreglass and composite vessel structures including sanding, sealing, laminating and painting
* Service and maintain marine engines, including diesel engines and outboard motors
* Install, maintain and troubleshoot 12V/24V electrical systems and marine wiring
* Coordinate and liaise with contractors for specialist inspections including rigging, gas, and fire safety compliance
* Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs and compliance schedules
* Manage marine workshop operations including tools, equipment and spare parts inventory
* Provide technical guidance and training to crew for onboard maintenance tasks
Assist with vessel handling, berthing and operational support when required
Skills and Experience Required
* Minimum 3 years of relevant experience in marine vessel construction, maintenance or repair (essential)
* Strong knowledge of marine systems including engines, electrical systems and vessel structures
* Experience working with fibreglass, timber or composite materials
* Ability to use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively
* Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills in marine environments
* Ability to plan maintenance schedules and manage multiple vessels simultaneously
* Experience with vessel slipping and haul-out procedures
* Strong understanding of Australian maritime safety and compliance standards (highly desirable)
Qualifications
* AQF Certificate III or equivalent qualification in Marine Craft Construction,
* Shipwright, or related field (or equivalent industry experience)
* Valid driver’s licence – essential
* Master 24m qualification – essential
* Marine Engine Driver (MED 2 or MED 3) – essential
* First Aid Certificate and 02 – desirable
