Lead two projects that work with our partners to deliver soil and land resource information for land type-based pastoral carrying capacities and an agricultural soil and land management manual for the Northern Territory.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Collaborate with project steering committees composed of pastoral scientists, vegetation ecologists, agronomists and industry representatives.
- Lead a review of available soil and land resource mapping across the Victoria River District and Alice Springs pastoral regions and agricultural precincts in the NT.
- Plan, design and undertake field operations to collect soil and land resource data, ensuring adherence to NT and Australian guidelines.
- Synthesise, interpret and extrapolate soil landscape data and mapping and compile into technical publications and extension material aimed at the pastoral and agricultural sectors.
- Supervise project team staff.
- Work with senior management to deliver all projects in a timely manner.
Selection criteria
Essential
- A relevant scientific degree qualification from a recognised university or tertiary institution.
- Demonstrated experience carrying out soil and land resource assessments using Australian or similar soil and land assessment standards, field techniques and soil classification systems.
- Demonstrated experience collating and interpreting soil and land resource related information and mapping in a GIS.
- Ability to work effectively with landholders and partners in a project team.
- An ability to undertake remote area field investigations in a small survey team.
- Current manual NT Drivers Licence or equivalent including an ability to operate a four wheel drive in off-road conditions.
Desirable
- Experience delivering soil and land management information to the agricultural or pastoral sectors.
