Offer description

Let's start with the important stuff. This role includes:

* Salary from $116,331 annum, per annum, (plus super) based on a 35-hour week.

The Role

Armidale Regional Council is seeking a proactive and solutions-focused Works Engineer to lead the delivery of our roads and drainage operations and maintenance programs. In this role, you'll plan, coordinate, and oversee essential civil works that keep our region moving, ensuring projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with service standards.

You'll manage operational works across roads, drainage, bridges, and associated public assets, working closely with internal teams, contractors, and the community. A key part of your role will be driving innovation in construction methodologies, applying value-engineering principles, and championing continuous improvements in service delivery.

As a leader within the Transport team, you'll foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and high performance. You'll ensure compliance with WHS requirements, deliver strong customer-centred services, and support Council's long-term infrastructure and asset management commitments.

About You

To thrive in this role, you'll bring a degree in Civil Engineering and at least five years' experience in a senior civil construction or road maintenance position. You have strong technical capability across roads, drainage, and public assets, supported by a solid understanding of local government operations and the responsibilities of a local roads authority. You value the breadth of skills within a multidisciplinary works team and recognise how each role contributes to successful operational outcomes.

Your leadership approach empowers technical staff, supervisors, and field crews to deliver high-quality results. You excel in stakeholder engagement, bringing sound judgement, effective problem-solving, and clear communication to every situation. You're committed to continuous improvement and transparent collaboration, and your experience with asset management frameworks, project management, and WHS compliance further strengthens your ability to lead and support safe, efficient service delivery.

If you're motivated to shape essential community infrastructure and help deliver services that directly impact the region every day, we'd love you to join our team.
