Role Overview
The Coordinator Design and Planning provides senior-level engineering leadership within Council's Engineering Services team, working closely with the Manager Engineering Services to coordinate design programs, deliver specialist engineering advice on development assessments, and support infrastructure outcomes that align with Council's strategic objectives. This role brings together technical expertise, coordination, negotiation, and mentorship, making it well suited to an experienced Senior Civil Engineer who thrives on balancing design oversight, development assessment, and meaningful stakeholder engagement within a Local Government environment.

* Attractive annual salary $140k - $170k (based on experience)

Responsibilities
* Provide high-level civil engineering advice across a range of development, operational works, and infrastructure matters, ensuring proposals align with Council standards, planning schemes, and long-term asset objectives.
* Lead and coordinate the Engineering Services design program, including internal design activities and the engagement, management, and review of external engineering consultants to ensure quality, compliance, and timely delivery.
* Assess engineering components of development applications and operational works applications, preparing detailed technical reports and recommendations to support statutory decision-making processes.
* Negotiate, draft, and administer infrastructure agreements, working with external and internal stakeholders to secure infrastructure contributions that support growth while protecting Council's existing and future assets. This includes agreements relating to roads, drainage, parks, and other civil infrastructure
* Review and audit construction and development works to confirm compliance with approved designs, permits, specifications, and relevant Australian Standards, identifying and resolving non-compliance issues where required.
* Provide technical input into asset management planning, works programming, and infrastructure lifecycle considerations to support sustainable service delivery across the region.
* Collaborate closely with Planning, Development, and other internal teams to ensure engineering outcomes are integrated, practical, and aligned with broader Council objectives.
* Mentor and support team members to build a high performing team, fostering professional growth, technical capability, and a culture of continuous improvement within the Engineering Services team.
* Represent Council in technical discussions with developers, consultants, and external agencies, clearly articulating engineering requirements and negotiating practical, risk-aware solutions.
Qualifications and Experience
* Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering with a minimum of five years' post-graduate experience.
* Demonstrated experience providing technical engineering input, ideally within a Local Government environment.
* Strong knowledge of development assessment processes, performance-based planning schemes, and infrastructure planning.
* Proven ability to coordinate design programs and manage consultant deliverables.
* High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Project.
* A collaborative professional with the confidence to negotiate, advise, and influence outcomes.
* Commitment to customer service, community-focused outcomes, and positive workplace culture.
* RPEQ registration (or ability to obtain) will be highly regarded.
