Currently, there are around 5.5 million Australians with a disability. The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) implements the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), which is one of the biggest social reforms in the country since Medicare. As an Agency, we support more than 717,000 participants with a significant and permanent disability, and the families and carers of those living with disability. For many Australians, this will be the first time they receive the disability support they need. The NDIA is designed to enhance the quality of life and increase economic and social participation for people with disability and will mean a peace of mind for every Australian.
A new role awaits
The Risk and Emergency Management Branch is integral to the Agency's resilience and operational integrity. This branch is dedicated to ensuring the Agency can effectively respond to and recover from disruptions or significant, unplanned changes, including extreme weather events and data breaches that may pose potential threats to the Agency's operations, personnel, assets, brand, and reputation. The Branch operates using an "All-Hazards" approach in the application of planning at all levels to achieve consistency whilst also considerate of geographical differences.
We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Risk and Emergency Management specialist to join the team.

As an EL1 Assistant Director, you will lead a team, uplift capability through training and tools, manage budgets and procurements, and may participate in rostered availability to support after hours coordination as required.
Responsibilities include:
* Support the Director Risk and Emergency Management in leading the design, coordination, and assurance of all-hazards crisis management capabilities, providing authoritative advice, shaping policy and operational outcomes, and delivering high-quality persuasive communications for senior executives.
* Alignment of planning across "All-Hazard" plans, for example, Data Breach Response, Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity Planning.
* Establish and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to identify and maintain mutually beneficial and productive working relationships, raising awareness and considerations of people with disability in the crisis/emergency management space.
* Facilitation of training sessions and workshops for Agency staff.
* Providing Emergency Management support to State and Territory Incident Controllers in planning, response and recovery activities.
* Prepare Executive and Ministerial briefs and other Senior Executive reporting.
* Work across agency and other stakeholder needs when initiating the development of new systems, procedures and/or policies.
* Represent and collaborate on behalf of the agency to mutually advance the agency's interest across Whole of Government.
Enough about us, let's talk about you
As EL1 Assistant Director, you will lead the Agency's planning, readiness, and response arrangements across prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery with a proven ability to effectively manage competing priorities and strategic directions in-line with agency goals and objectives. You will have previous experience in incident/emergency management, crisis coordination and business continuity management, and will have the ability to work with a high level of autonomy in an often-uncertain environment.
Specifically, you will have demonstrated expertise and experience in the following areas:
* Experience in the application of "All-Hazards" crisis, incident and emergency management planning and response.
* Influencing outcomes through high impact written and verbal communication. You will craft persuasive briefs, ministerial submissions, and executive talking points that frame issues clearly and present options.
* High level stakeholder engagement and management experience managing complex and sensitive issues with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
* Strong personal resilience and the ability to lead by example through times of uncertainty or unpredictability.
* Demonstrated experience in Business Continuity Management and Business Impact Analysis activities, Post Incident Reviews and the effective implementation of these to drive continuous improvement.
* Demonstrated experience in emergency management activities across a varying geographical landscape.
* Have passion for social impact and a contemporary attitude towards people with disabilities and the impact on individuals.
High level written and verbal communication skills and the courage to identify issues, lead solutions and communicate impacts of decisions and actions when required.
The successful candidate will have the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and the ability to manage multiple projects.

While this role is ideally performed from Geelong VIC, Richmond – VIC, Deakin -ACT or Brisbane -Qld, flexible working arrangements from other locations across Australia are possible. We intend to fill this role in an ongoing capacity, however non-ongoing roles up to 12 months with the possibility of extension up to 2 years may be offered.
Successful candidates will be required to undergo a pre-employment National Police History check, Worker Screening check and/or Working with Children Check (where required) and provide evidence of Australian Citizenship.
