Overview
Senior Infrastructure Engineer | Software Engineering Level 3 Advanced Practitioner — Deakin ACT Onsite. Role to support Defence deployed ICT environments within the Directorate of Deployed ICT (D-ICT) / Joint Capabilities Group (JCG).
This role focuses on infrastructure engineering, systems design, technical assurance, and cross-project integration in mission-critical Defence ICT environments.
Role Details
* Role: Senior Infrastructure Engineer – Software Engineering Level 3
* Client Area: Directorate of Deployed ICT / Joint Capabilities Group
* Extension Options: 2 x 12-month extensions
* Security Clearance: NV2 mandatory
* Competitive Range: $140–$150/hour including superannuation
Core Responsibilities
* Deliver end-to-end infrastructure engineering capability across complex Defence ICT environments, including system design, architecture, implementation, technical assurance, and cross-project integration support
* Design, specify, and develop infrastructure solutions across Defence ICT environments
* Consider functionality, data, security, integration, and performance requirements
* Develop scalable and secure infrastructure aligned to Defence standards
* Ensure infrastructure designs are practical, secure, supportable, and operationally effective
* Produce architecture designs, high-level designs, and related artefacts
* Develop Quality Assurance Plans, build guides, scripts, playbooks, and Standard Operating Procedures
* Ensure artefacts are clear, repeatable, auditable, and fit-for-purpose
* Analyse hardware, systems, and integration dependencies; identify risks and optimisation opportunities
* Provide evidence-based technical recommendations and visibility across current infrastructure, systems, and hardware environments
* Produce integration design outputs and system configuration specifications; ensure interoperability across Defence environments
* Support deployment, transition into operational Defence environments, and capability uplift
* Deliver practical and tested technical advice to Defence stakeholders
Technical Assurance & Quality
* Deliver Technical Assurance Outputs and Objective Quality Evidence
* Prepare judgements of significance and ensure compliance with Defence engineering and assurance frameworks
* Support audit, assurance, and handover requirements; deliver issue and resolution reports
* Identify system deficiencies and technical risks; document remediation actions
* Provide periodic engineering coordination reports; analyse cross-project dependencies and impacts
* Maintain decision records and support coordination across multiple concurrent projects
* Offer senior engineering advice to program teams and stakeholders; support technical decision-making and direction
* Foster collaboration across Defence delivery environments and communicate clearly with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Essential Skills & Experience
* Senior infrastructure engineering experience in complex ICT environments
* Strong systems engineering and architecture capability
* Experience developing High-Level Designs, solution designs, configuration documentation, and SOPs
* Experience producing build guides, scripts, playbooks, and implementation artefacts
* Experience with technical assurance, quality evidence, and engineering governance
* Ability to assess current state infrastructure and identify risks, gaps, and optimisation opportunities
* Experience supporting cross-project integration and dependency management
* Strong stakeholder engagement and consensus-building skills
* Ability to provide senior technical advice across multiple project streams
* Experience in Defence, Federal Government, deployed ICT, secure ICT, or complex enterprise environments
* Ability to work within classified Defence environments
* Current NV2 security clearance

* Current NV2 security clearance required
* Compliance with APS Code of Conduct, ITAR and export control requirements, and Classified Defence environment requirements
* Travel provision of $18,000 included; overtime not permitted unless approved
