Overview
Seagrasses are one of the most important plants on the planet. They are the basis of the food web in the ocean and help keep the water clean by absorbing nutrients from coastal runoff and stabilising sediment. They are the main food source for turtles and dugongs and provide an important habitat for thousands of species of smaller marine animals, thus playing a vital role in our environment and sustaining our fisheries. Seagrass is an indicator species responding rapidly to natural and human influence.
EK follow the methodology of Seagrass-Watch, a global scientific, non-destructive seagrass assessment and monitoring program. The methodology has a strong scientific underpinning, and is designed so that everyday people who don\'t have a science background can easily and quickly learn it. Seagrass-Watch monitoring efforts are vital to assist with tracking global and local patterns in seagrass health and assess the human impact on seagrass meadows.
