Employment Lawyer - Industrial Relations Focus

The Future Generation Joint Venture brings together the combined engineering experience and expertise of WeBuild, Clough and Lane and has been selected to design construct Snowy 2.0. This project is based within the Snowy Mountains in NSW and will deliver one of the largest pumped hydro schemes in the world.

Snowy 2.0 is the next chapter in the Snowy Scheme's history. It is the largest committed renewable energy project in Australia and will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come. This Iconic Project has and will continue to create its own legacy in Australian history.

Purpose of the Role

The Technical Legal Support Officer is responsible for providing legal and compliance support across employment law, industrial relations, and governance matters within a construction project environment. The role will assist with investigations, contract and policy review, and ensure alignment of legal frameworks with operational needs, contributing to sound workforce practices and risk management.

Qualifications

* Tertiary qualification in Law, with a focus on employment or industrial relations
* White Card

Experience

* Minimum 5 years' experience in employment law within a construction, infrastructure, or engineering environment is desirable
* Experience supporting investigations, audits, or compliance reviews in a regulated or unionised environment
* Experience drafting or reviewing contracts, policies, and legal correspondence
* Strong understanding of Australian employment legislation and industrial instruments
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
* Ability to manage sensitive and high-risk matters with professionalism
* Sound negotiation and problem-solving skills
* Demonstrated initiative and a proactive, solution-focused approach
* Proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
* Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
* Well-developed time management skills
* High attention to detail
* Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
* Ability to research, interpret, and apply relevant legislation and case law
* Able to draft legal sensitive documents such as investigation summaries, policy frameworks, or case briefings
* Understanding of confidentiality, information security, and legal record-keeping standards
* Capability to work autonomously while managing multiple priorities

Core Accountabilities and Responsibilities

* Interpret and apply employment legislation, awards, and agreements to policies, procedures, and practices.
* Draft legal documents, correspondence and reports in a timely and professional manner.
* Monitor legal developments and assess their impact on the organisation.
* Support the development and interpretation of legal advice related to restructures, workforce planning, and enterprise bargaining.
* Lead compliance audits and risk assessments.
* Support investigations and manage complex employee relations matters.
* Build internal capability through the development and delivery of training, toolkits, and mentoring.
* Draft and review HR policies, contracts, and other relevant documentation.
* Provide legal research and support on employment and industrial relations matters.
* Assist in the preparation of case files, briefing notes, and submission for internal or external legal proceedings.
* Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of HR and legal governance frameworks.
